Dear Everyone,
Thanksgiving was a blast. You would never guess what I had to feast on. But that's OK because I will tell you. Well it wasn't the usual turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and that good stuff. Instead it was ribs, baked mac-n-cheese, turnip Greens (still not sure what that is) potato salad, dressing (which is the equivalent of stuffing). All that was at one family's house that we ate with. It was pretty neat, and as you can probably guess, they weren't white ha ha. But I love'em and they call me their white brother and I got permission to call one of them my Nappy haired black sister. Super great family. Also we had thanksgiving at another ladies house, Sister Wall, I don't know if I've told you about her or not but anyway, we had some of the similar foods there, instead of normal dressing we had duck dressing which was pretty tasty and some chit lens and rice. Now you may be wondering what exactly chit lens are and since I'm going to tell you, you probably want to be sitting down...Its pig intestines! Ha ha. Not bad actually. Pretty gross when you think about it, cause....well...you know.. poop goes through there hahahaha, but it was cleaned out and everything, still kinda gross though.
That's terrible that you didn't eat any apple pie and that it got thrown away. I didn't have any pie for thanksgiving, instead they had cake. I don't know when cake and macaroni and cheese became a part of thanksgiving but it is here.
I'm trying to think if any cool things happened to me this week. While I think about that I'll let you know about church yesterday. Sacrament meetings here is a little different than back home. For church yesterday the Fisher family participated in the sacrament meeting. Two of their kids, Luke, and Hannah, gave talks, Luke is 10 and Hannah is 8 and then those two and their two little siblings, Ethan, and Ellie (both 4) sang a song and then Sister and Brother Fisher gave talks, it was really great. Brother Fisher talked about how showing gratitude is exercising our faith in Jesus Christ.
Well I thought of something that happened this week. Not cool by any means, actually quite sad and a little unnerving. Anyway, while we were tracking I knocked on this door and an old man answered, I proceed to talk to him about the message we have to share and he asked how Joseph Smith was called to be a prophet. So I told him about his experience and everything. He stopped me and asked if I really do believe that. I thought for a second and said yes I do, with all my heart. He was shocked and asked how I could believe such nonsense and that he felt bad for me that I've been so tricked by his fraud. He then shut the door shaking his head. It left me a little unnerved. I stood at the door for a second just shocked and dumbfounded that that had just happened. Another instance happened just a couple minutes after. We knocked on a lady's door and she answered. We talked to her a little about the message we have to share. She then told us that she once was "Mormon" but she doesn't believe in it anymore. She told us that she studied both the bible and the Book of Mormon extensively and prayed to know if this was where she was suppose to be and she felt like she got the answer that it was wrong. I was very sad for her. Anyway, those things happened this week and that was sad. Anyway, I'm probably done for right now. I can't really think of anything else to add in this great letter to you. Except for saying that I love you tons and I wish I could've been there to eat apple pie with you. But that'll happen in 2 years, and we will feast upon that pie like KINGS! well I will at least :) with vanilla ice cream too...yummmmmmy. Well I've gotta go email President Jensen now. I'll write to you next week :)
Love,
Elder Matt Klingler
